Over the past decade, research shows that there is a growing need and interest in dance education. The Calgary Dance Foundation supports and advocates for the promotion of the sport of dance. With a growing need and interest within the wider community, the Calgary Dance Foundation is taking a pro-active approach to support their mandate to encourage dance education in the wider community. We have done a significant outreach and as such have partnered with certified dance instructors and volunteers to kick start a Latin and Ballroom Dancing Program for children aged 5-12 years.
Dance is a natural method of learning and basic form of cultural expression. Children learn movement patterns as readily as they learn language. While our educational systems for early childhood include drawing (visual) and music (auditory), they often neglect to include dance. It is essential that education provide our children with the developmental benefits and unique learning opportunities that come from organizing movement into the aesthetic experience of dance.
What others say
“I truly recommend that program. It integrates itself in the Alberta curriculum of physical education (dance) and brings much more than dancing objectives to children. A sense of respect and awareness of others is the beginning of a peaceful society.”
